The Equalities & Human Rights Commission (EHRC) commissioned the Highlands & Islands Equality Forum (HIEF) to develop a Scottish Rural Equalities Network (SREN) following learning from our research into equalities issues in rural areas. Equality stakeholders have told us that it would help their work to share information, learning, case studies, resources etc with those facing similar challenges in different parts of rural Scotland as well as growing a more extensive local network.
As part of our development of the SREN, we would like to invite you to attend a couple of free events in your local areas, in which we aim to bring together local people to discuss equalities issues.
Event 1 = Seminar on Identity and Rural Equalities.
(09.30 - 13.00 plus lunch)
Took place on 27th August 2009.
Event 2 = SREN Local Development Day. (14.00 - 16.30)
This is an opportunity for those interested in equalities issues to come together and, with new ideas from the morning's identity seminar, look at how we can feed rural equalites into local equality agendas. The Highlands & Islands Equality Forum will facilitate a workshop of discussions to develop local capacity to address prevailing issues.
You can learn more about the Identity Seminar and the SREN by visiting www.hief.org.uk.
