Transgender Day of Remembrance

On this day, we remember those who were killed because of transphobic hatred or prejudice.

www.transgenderdor.org

Rita Hester was murdered on 28th November in 1998. Her murder, like most transphobically-motivated murder cases, has yet to be solved. In 1999, a "Remembering Our Dead" vigil was held in San Francisco. Within ten years, among the trans communities, friends, and allies, the Transgender Day of Remembrance is an internationally-recognised day to remember, honour, and commemorate the victims of transphobic violence.

Not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identifies as transgendered, but all were victims of transphobic hatred.
