Stows unique Diploma in Women's Studies has been running since 2004. Interested? For more information and an application form, call 0141 332 1786 or email pcurrie@stow.ac.uk. The course consists of six credits at SCQF level 7, covering the following areas:
Women & Sociology We begin by considering different theories and ideas about how society works-and women's place within it. You will then look in more detail at women's experiences within the family and in paid employment. (this is a two-credit unit) Women's Health This unit starts by asking 'what is health?' and considers a range of factors which may affect womens health. We take a historical and current view of reproductive health and mental health. Women and Psychology Where does gender come from? How do boys and girls become 'boys' and 'girls'? Do men and women develop social skills in different ways? We consider these developmental questions in this unit before moving on to look at gender and eating disorders. Women's History: Britain and Scotland 1850-1979 This popular unit offers a fascinating insight into the changing roles of women from the industrial revolution, through the suffragette movement and two World Wars. Women's Studies Research Project After a brief introduction and guidance on research methods, this is your unit-a chance to look in more depth at a topic which interests you, perhaps something which affects your life outside college.
