Brian Souter and section 28

In June 2000, the Scottish Parliament voted to repeal Section 28, following a bitter campaign in which opponents of LGBT human rights used scare tactics and what was estimated at the time as £2M to try to "keep the clause". Brian Souter, co-founder of Stagecoach, spent a million pounds on Keep the Clause, including billboard advertising around Scotland with homophobic messages.

This June, 11 years later, the UK government have announced they are honouring Brian Souter with a knighthood for his services to transport and to the voluntary sector.
